The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) in
cooperation with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is preparing
an Environmental Study Report for a rail extension from the central
business district of Salt Lake City, Utah to Centerville City in Davis
County,
Utah through
the
cities of North Salt Lake, Woods Cross and Bountiful. Two
rail technologies are being considered: light rail and street
car. The proposed improvements also include a bus extension from Centerville
City
to Farmington
City,
Utah. The general study area falls between the Wasatch Mountains on the
east and the Legacy Parkway and I-215 alignments on the west.
South Davis County has been the subject of several transportation studies.
The proposed project originated from three previous planning studies:
the Legacy Parkway Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS),
the WFRC South Davis Transit Needs Analysis, and the Wasatch Front
Urban Area Long Range Transportation Plan Update: 2004 – 2030.
Most recently (2008), it was analyzed during the South Davis Transit
Study Alternatives Analysis
(AA). To see a copy of the AA report, click
here. The AA examined several
transit alternatives between Salt Lake City and Farmington, including
diesel multiple unit, light rail (LRT), street car, bus, and bus rapid
transit (BRT). A range of alignments for these alternatives were considered.
The AA report defined the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) as “a
low cost rail system between the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub and
Parrish Lane, with continuing bus service to the Farmington Commuter
Rail Station.” To

The LPA is now being taken forward for further environmental analysis.
The environmental analysis phase will build on the results of the
AA and includes public involvement as a key element. We look forward
to
working with you and hearing your comments on the project.
